Speaking

A passionate advocate on behalf of good books and reading, Shutta is an animated keynote speaker, willing participant of panel discussions, university lecturer, and an energetic workshop leader. In addition, she brings stories to life at fun-filled story hours, and she enjoys providing motivational staff-development presentations for teachers and librarians.

Shutta received the Michigan Library Association, Children’s Services Division, Award of Merit in 2002, as Michigan’s Youth Librarian of the Year. In 2005 she was invited to read at the White House Easter Egg Roll, and in 2010 she presented at schools and libraries on American military bases across Japan. Honoraria:

(Note:  Programs are discounted if a book sale is held in conjunction with Shutta’s appearance.)

SCHOOLS

  • $1,200 for a full day of three presentations and a book signing. Max.: 3 sessions per day.
  • $800 for a half day for schools, maximum of two sessions and a book signing.
  • $400 for one session.

(Note: if more than one school schedules for the same day, there is still a maximum of 3 presentations.)

PUBLIC LIBRARIES

  • $800 for a full day. $500 for a half day.
  • $350 for one session (60 to 90 minutes) if a book sale and signing are scheduled.

OTHER EXPENSES

  • When necessary, meals and lodging negotiable at local rates, or reimbursed.
  • IRS rate per mile for auto travel to a location beyond a 35-mile radius of Shutta’s home in Ann Arbor, Michigan (April to Oct.), or in St. Augustine, Florida (Nov. to April).
  • All travel expenses, including transfers, when traveling by train or plane.
  • No expenses if travel is within a 35-mile radius of her home.

NOTE:  Shutta will entertain reasonable offers from all groups and institutions in need, and may be able to suggest ways to make a visit more affordable.
