A big thank you to the Burningword Literary Journal for accepting and publishing this new poem by Shutta: Madonna with Potatoes. It is a favorite of mine. I hope you like it too! It’s below, and here: bit.ly/3Lfk2Ui Leave a note here or at the journal if you like it! (Couldn’t help myself – – looking at all those old paintings the Christ Child looks like a large lumpy potato. Maybe, it’s just me.) There’s also a pic of my mom peeling potatoes that inspired the poem.
I can see my Mom peeling potatoes,
apron wet because of the too low white porcelain sink
attached to the wall incorrectly.
Water on the floor.
Good Southern Potato Salad tasty and moist.
Diane–I don’t know if i ever got back to you on this. Sorry! I just found the message as I went to my webpage to do some work. Not sure why it didn’t forward to my regular email as it was supposed to.
But anyway, thank you. This poem is one of my all time favorites. And what a great visual seeing your mom at the sink that isn’t quite properly attached.
Hugs,
Shutta
